In-Line & Over-Line Vision Inspection Technology Qualifies for IBIE ‘BEST in Baking’ Honors

Westborough, MA (August 29, 2022) – The International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE)’s BEST in Baking Program has recognized KPM Analytics’ in-line & over-line vision inspection technologies as a qualifier in the Automation & Robotics category.

In conjunction with Snack Food & Wholesale Bakery, the IBIE's BEST in Baking Program honors suppliers and bakeries committed to excellence in the industry's most important topics, according to the organization’s website. The Automation & Robotics category – a new category for IBIE 2022 – emphasizes equipment or other technology that automates a manual process, improving throughput and reducing labor requirements.

“We are thrilled and honored to be recognized by IBIE and our peers in the baking industry,” says Andrea Bertuolo, Managing Director of KPM Inspection. “We take pride in being at the forefront of innovations to help bakeries solve their process challenges and build a stronger brand with trustworthy product analysis data.”

In-Line & Over-Line Vision Inspection Technologies help operators assess critical 2D and 3D product features before packaging.

In an industry loaded with competitors, appearances matter in consumers' decision to purchase baked products from one brand over another. Traditionally, bakeries have employed manual (visual) product inspectors on the production floor as the last line of defense to ensure they meet specifications before packaging. These inherently subjective methods introduce a greater likelihood of human error, especially when operating at full-line speeds.

In recent years, many baking companies have begun installing in-line and over-line vision inspection technologies, such as those from KPM Analytics. These turn-key systems incorporate high-speed cameras with imaging software and advanced algorithms to precisely detect and measure food products almost anywhere on the production line.

These applications can include automated product rejection or recirculation capabilities, making for a completely hands-free quality assurance system.

“As we have learned from conversations with our baker customers, consumers demand that the product they are about to eat looks exactly like the product pictured on the packaging,” says Bertuolo. “Now, with today's rising business expenses and a workforce in flux, automated vision inspection technologies are helping companies maintain stronger standards for product appearance and correct mistakes before they can occur. This application benefits companies with multiple production lines or locations – these standards remain strong no matter where the product is produced.”

KPM Analytics is exhibiting at IBIE 2022 Booth #635 in Las Vegas from September 18-21, and will have a demonstration of an in-line vision inspection system on display, among other quality assurance technologies.
